TikTok Shop Affiliate Program: 1,000 Followers, Then a Pilot.

Until 5,000 followers you get 3 shoppable videos a day, deleted ones included. What one sale pays, when it lands, and the UK's 500-follower rule.

October 14, 2026

If you join TikTok Shop's affiliate program in the US with fewer than 5,000 followers, you start on probation. TikTok lets you apply at 1,000 followers, then places you in a pilot program: up to three shoppable product videos a day, three shoppable LIVEs a week, products only from its most reliable shops, and no campaigns. You leave the pilot once you have 5,000 followers and at least 30 days in it.1

The mechanics are the same at every size. You tag TikTok Shop products in your videos, your LIVEs and the Showcase tab on your profile. The seller sets a commission rate between 1% and 80%, and you earn it on what sells.2 The commission usually reaches your account about 15 days after the order is delivered.3 In the UK, the bar to join is 500 followers, and it's about the same across much of the EU.45 And don't confuse it with TikTok's Ads Manager affiliate program, which pays for referring advertisers.6

Before you reach 1,000 followers

In the US you can't apply yet, and you can't go LIVE either. Both start at 1,000 followers, though TikTok says the LIVE threshold can vary by region.17 In the UK the program opens at 500, so skip ahead to the UK and EU section.

Use the wait to practice the kind of video the program pays for: a product you own, shown in use, with a hook in the first few seconds. Making a product video with just your phone walks through it step by step. Brands also pay a set price for product videos they run on their own accounts, and that work doesn't depend on your follower count.

From 1,000 followers: applying and the pilot

How to apply in the US

You need to be 18 or older, based in the US and at 1,000 followers. In the TikTok app, open TikTok Studio, go to the Monetization tab, choose TikTok Shop for Creator, then Join now. You verify your identity with a US driver's license, state ID or passport, and confirm your age within two months of registering. If you're joining now, TikTok may let you start without ID and ask for it after your first commission (the rule covers anyone registered from July 2025 on). While that check is pending, your product links can be hidden from viewers. The check takes minutes, and withdrawals open once it's through.8

The pilot's limits

TikTok calls it the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program. You're enrolled automatically for at least 30 days, and you graduate when you have both 5,000 followers and 30 days in the program. As of October 14, 2026, TikTok's eligibility policy (updated September 25) sets these limits:1

  • Up to 3 shoppable product videos a day
  • Up to 3 shoppable LIVEs a week
  • Only products from shops with a Shop Performance Score of 95% or higher, TikTok's measure of how reliable a seller is
  • No campaigns

More videos count toward the limit than you'd expect. Every video you post with a product link counts, including ones only you can see. So do scheduled videos, from the moment you schedule them, videos you delete (they still count), videos removed for breaking rules, and older videos you add a product link to later. Drafts, failed uploads and videos without a product link don't count.8 Posting a video, deleting it and trying again costs you two of your three.

You may see other numbers. An FAQ on one of TikTok's own pages still says 5 shoppable videos a week, the limit TikTok replaced with 3 a day in April 2026.89 Your own status and limits are in the app under Creator Center, then Settings, then Creator Pilot Program, and that's the page to trust for your account.

Leaving the pilot

After the first 30 days, how long the pilot lasts depends on your followers. At 1,200 followers, you stay in it until you've gained another 3,800, whether that takes six weeks or six months.

If you're still under 5,000 after 30 days, TikTok may offer tasks that ease some restrictions early. You pass a quiz on its policies and keep your Creator Health Rating at 176 points or more (you start at 200, so that's 24 points of room). Then you do one of three things: post six or more shoppable videos of at least 8 seconds, host one LIVE of 5 minutes or longer promoting products, or drive 10 orders through your shoppable content within 30 days. Finishing them can lift the limits on product marketplace access, shoppable LIVE features and campaigns early. It doesn't lift the daily video limit, which only ends when you graduate.18910

One more label to know. TikTok can mark an account as an Extended Pilot Creator after its security and compliance checks. Extended accounts can drop to 3 shoppable videos and 1 shoppable LIVE a week, and TikTok says rule violations or low-quality content can stop them from graduating.18

Your first week of posts

Three videos a day is still 21 product videos a week, plenty to learn which products and hooks sell. Rushing them can cost you more than views, because breaking rules costs Creator Health points, and a low rating cuts your reach.10 A steadier first week looks like this:

  1. Start with what you own. Search TikTok Shop for products you already use. In the pilot you can only promote ones from shops scoring 95% or more. You can film today, and you'll talk about each product from experience.
  2. Build each video the way TikTok suggests. TikTok Shop's own creator guide lays out three parts: a hook in the first three to six seconds that's about the product, a message about its benefits, and a clear call to action, spoken or on screen. It names four styles to try: a personal review, a before-and-after, an unboxing and a step-by-step tutorial. TikTok calls them guidelines, not rules.11
  3. Be in it. TikTok Shop's content policy prohibits shoppable content with no active creator in it, meaning nobody speaks, interacts, appears on screen or shows the product in use, and it may treat AI visuals that stand in for an actual demonstration as misleading.12
  4. Fill your Showcase. Add the products you promote to the Showcase tab on your profile, which holds up to 2,000 of them, so people who find you between videos can still buy.13
  5. Request samples you'll actually film. Free samples go to creators with a TikTok Shop sale in the last 120 days, and they come with a deadline: you post within 14 days of receiving one (one 7-day extension is allowed), and sellers can see whether you deliver. Before your first sale, you'll mostly be offered refundable samples instead. You buy those, and you get your money back if your content meets the seller's sales goal within 120 days; there's no posting deadline.14 Following through sets you apart: in a Flywheel report on data from the affiliate software company Reacher, as reported by Digiday, creators made a video only 47% of the time when brands sent them samples.15 How free and refundable samples work covers the details.
  6. Try a LIVE when you're ready. LIVE needs 1,000 followers, and the pilot allows three shoppable LIVEs a week.71 If you're still in the pilot after 30 days, one LIVE of five minutes or more promoting products also counts toward the tasks that ease its restrictions early.

From 5,000 followers: full access

Once you have 5,000 followers and 30 days in the pilot, you graduate, and if you apply with 5,000 or more you skip the pilot entirely. You get the full product marketplace and campaigns, plus the limit every US creator has had since May 11, 2026: up to 30 shoppable videos a day.1 Campaigns are TikTok Shop promotions built around chosen products, run as what TikTok calls Key Livestreams, Livestream Championships and Short Video Competitions. You register for them in the app, under TikTok Studio, then TikTok Shop for Creator, then Creator Campaigns.16

Follower count doesn't decide everything, though. Sellers choose whom to invite to targeted collaborations, and those invites are the only route to the flat fees covered further down.17

In the UK, you apply through Creator tools, then TikTok Shop. Followers only cost you access if you fall more than 100 below the 500 minimum.4 TikTok's UK guidance says new creators go through a pilot too, but it doesn't publish the limits. The UK cap we found is up to 25 shoppable videos a day.18 Commission arrives on the 3rd or 15th day after delivery, depending on the seller's settlement period, and payouts go to a UK bank account through Stripe. If you never withdraw, TikTok pays out automatically every 90 days after a week's notice.19

Two UK rules come from outside TikTok. The influencers' guide published on the Advertising Standards Authority's site counts affiliate-linked content as advertising that needs an "Ad" label placed clearly before it, and says tags like "aff" or "afflink" aren't clear enough.20 And HMRC's trading allowance lets individuals earn up to £1,000 a year of trading income tax-free.21 The pilot, Creator Health Rating, sample and flat-fee rules in the rest of this post come from TikTok's US pages, so check the UK versions in your app.

Eight EU countries joined TikTok Shop on June 15, 2026: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland and Portugal. It also runs in Ireland, but we didn't find a creator page there. As of October 14, 2026, no TikTok creator page lists the program for Canada or Australia. Outside Europe, it runs in the US and several other markets, such as Japan.5

What a sale pays, from tap to bank

The seller sets the rate

Each product carries a commission rate its seller chose, anywhere from 1% to 80%. TikTok suggests a rate, leaves the choice to the seller, and publishes no typical figure. Products open to every creator carry an open-collaboration rate, and sellers can also invite chosen creators at a targeted rate, which overrides the open one.2

One sale, worked through

TikTok's own formula is revenue minus refunds, times the commission rate.3 Revenue here means the product price before tax, after any discount the seller pays for.22 An example with made-up numbers: a $30 product, a $5 seller discount and a 15% rate pay you $3.75 a sale. The same product in a Shoppable Carousel, TikTok's photo-post format, pays 60% of the video rate unless the seller sets a different carousel rate, so 9%, or $2.25.3

Which sales count

  • The commission goes to the last product link the buyer clicked before checkout, and it covers that item only, not everything else in their cart.23
  • Purchases through your Showcase link earn the same rate as videos and LIVEs, and shared links stay valid for commission for up to 100 days.23
  • If you let sellers run your videos as ads (one setting covers every seller), sales from those ads pay the seller's ads commission rate, or your standard rate if they didn't set one.24
  • If a seller lowers an open-collaboration rate, creators already promoting the product keep the old one for 30 days, unless they remove it from their Showcase or delete the video. Open-collaboration increases apply straight away, while a change to a targeted invite's rate, up or down, takes effect after 5 days.3

What affiliates report earning

Mostly small amounts per sale. A US creator reviewing TikTok on Trustpilot in July 2026 wrote that products offered to smaller creators sometimes pay "only a few cents or a dollar per sale."25 One affiliate who publishes her monthly income reported $19,069 in commissions over her first year, from September 2024 to August 2025, after slow first months. She says she now spends about an hour a day on it, less than she used to. One early product paid her $4.20 a sale and sold almost 200 times in a month, by her estimate. From April to September 2026, her monthly totals ran from $335 to $1,349.26 One creator's numbers aren't a forecast. They do match the program's math: income builds from many small commissions, and one product that sells well can change a month.

So is it worth it? It suits creators who already enjoy making product videos and can keep posting for months while they learn what sells. Every video along the way is practice at the hooks and demos brands pay for. The honest costs: most sales pay a few dollars, the pilot slows small accounts down, and a pattern of violations can freeze what you've earned.

When it lands, and getting it out

In the US, commission usually arrives 15 days after the order is delivered. If the seller has a longer settlement period with TikTok, you wait as long as they do, up to 31 days after delivery, and open disputes or returns hold it back too.327 Canceled and fully refunded orders pay nothing. A refund that comes before your commission is paid takes it back. One that comes after doesn't.2722

To withdraw in the US, you have two options:28

MethodFeeMinimumArrives in
Bank account$0.05 per withdrawal$23 to 5 business days
PayPal0.9% of the amount$21 business day

If all your commissions come from local products, you withdraw whenever you like. Once you also earn on what TikTok calls cross-border products, it withdraws all your future commissions automatically every Wednesday.27

Before your first payout, the commission account asks for your personal and tax details, including your Social Security number in the US.29 Commissions are taxable income, and the IRS says you report income whether or not a Form 1099-K arrives.30 For what counts and what to set aside, including products you're sent, see what UGC creators owe in taxes.

What can freeze your commissions

TikTok scores every shop creator with a Creator Health Rating from 0 to 1,000. New creators start at 200, 50 points above the first traffic cut, and breaking rules costs points. At 150 points or fewer, TikTok cuts your traffic by half. At 100, it cuts 90%, and at 50, all of it. At zero, you lose e-commerce access for good. Deductions reset after 90 days.10

Repeat offenses move faster. Break the same rule six times within 90 days and TikTok can remove your shop permissions immediately and freeze your commissions, whatever your rating. You get 30 days to appeal each violation.31

Four content rules to know first, from TikTok Shop's content policy:12

  • Sending viewers elsewhere. Phone numbers, social media handles and email addresses in shoppable content count as redirecting traffic. The affiliate whose income appears above got a violation notice for this soon after she started.26
  • Medical claims. Saying a product cures a serious condition isn't allowed.
  • Before-and-after promises. A cream that makes wrinkles vanish between shots is a banned exaggeration. For weight-related products, before-and-after body comparisons showing dramatic weight loss or muscle gain are banned (sports and fitness equipment is exempt), and so are promised results by a deadline.
  • Edited results. Misleading beauty filters and AI edits to before-and-after results are out.

Then there's disclosure. TikTok treats a post you earn commission on as branded content, and you have to switch on its commercial content disclosure setting.32 Its creator terms also make you responsible for disclosing in line with the FTC's endorsement guides,33 so in the US, read up on what your own ad label has to do. UK creators have the "Ad" label rule above to follow as well.

Flat fees: when a seller pays per video

Sellers have a second way to pay: a flat fee, from $20 to $10,000 per creator, with or without commission on top. The catch is that flat fees only come through targeted collaborations, so a seller has to invite you, and TikTok says not every creator is eligible for those invites.17

When one arrives, the seller has already paid, and TikTok holds the money until your video passes review. The seller gets up to 14 days per review round, after which the video is approved and paid automatically. There are up to three rounds of edits and you get 7 days to re-upload each time; if the seller still rejects the video after the third, the money goes back to them. Only single shoppable videos qualify, and the fee can't be negotiated inside the platform.17 Once a flat-fee video is accepted and published, you can't edit or delete it, and the seller can use it in ads.34

TikTok also tells sellers roughly what to pay. Its tips on flat fees suggest about $100 per video for what it calls micro creators and $300 to $500 or more for top creators, both with permission to run the video as an ad.17 It's a suggestion to sellers rather than a rate card, and it still tells you what TikTok itself thinks a product video is worth once a brand can advertise with it.

Outside those invites, a seller who wants videos made to their brief but offers only commission is asking for custom work with no guaranteed pay. It's fair to name a price, and it helps to know how to negotiate your rate. Some brands would rather skip commission altogether and pay a set price for product videos, agreed before you film. Here's how to tell which brands are buying content.

Before you apply: three questions

Is the TikTok Shop affiliate program legit?

Yes. It's TikTok's own program, and you join it inside the TikTok app. The scams sit around it. The security firm CTM360 documented a 2025 scheme it calls FraudOnTok, which uses fake TikTok Shop sites, profiles posing as affiliates and contacts on WhatsApp or Telegram to talk affiliates into topping up fake wallets with crypto for commission payouts that never arrive.35 Genuine invites from sellers show up in your TikTok Shop inbox or your Creator Center,36 and TikTok says it never asks for your password, card details or two-factor codes by message, call or email.37 Being asked to pay before you can collect a commission is the tell.

Does TikTok pay $1 per 1,000 views?

Not through TikTok Shop, where affiliates earn on sales. Views pay through TikTok's Creator Rewards Program, which needs 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in the last 30 days and videos at least a minute long, and TikTok doesn't publish a rate per 1,000 views.38 Here's how per-view and per-video pay compare.

If someone buys days after watching, do I still get paid?

If yours was the last product link they clicked before checking out, the commission is yours. Shared product and Showcase links stay valid for commission for up to 100 days.23 TikTok's creator pages don't state a time limit for links in videos or LIVEs.
